Melville quiz, extra northern league points & schedule change
The Great Melville Quiz is being held on Monday 15th August at the TDO in Dinsdale (adjacent to the Countdown Supermarket).
Start time is 7pm, teams of up to six and entry fee of $10 each, with an array of prizes.
This is a great opportunity for all our teams to have a get together. It is mandatory that every Melville team has at least one entry into the quiz. (Any team foolish enough NOT to enter will certainly pay the price next year.) This is a club event and we need everyone’s support.
Please confirm your team entry with Andrea Timings as soon as possible. Teams can include friends, family, work colleagues, parents or renowned quiz burglars, eggheads and gurus.
Melville have benefitted by a further two much-needed northern premier league points following a mid-week ruling by competition management.
Melville drew 1-1 with Eastern Suburbs in our last home game but have now been awarded all three points.
The AFF received an incident report regarding the eligibility of the Eastern Suburbs player, Tim Payne who took the field at Gower Park, had an international traqnsfer from Portland Timbers approved on July 22.
So while that makes him clear to play for Eastern Suburbs in the summer, to play on the northern premier league he needed to have lodged the clearance before midnight on June 30.
Payne also played against Three Kings, but as Suburbs lost that game only the goal difference was amended.
Melville club captain Phil Wheatley welcomed the extra points. “Those who watched the match thought Melville were well worth three points on the day,” he said.
Melville are at home to Glenfield Rovers on Saturday.
Melville have agreed to a northern league scheduling change. We were due to play Birkenhead at home on August 27, but with the Chatham Cup semifinals taking precedence that day (Birkenhead v Miramar) we have accepted a proposal that we play our away match against Western Springs that day (previously set for September 3).
Melville’s catch-up match against Birkenhead is likely to be set for September 17
