A testimonial match for Melville United skipper Aaron Scott headlines a busy weekend of football action.
The match, at 4.30pm on Saturday at Gower Park, will feature a Melville XI against a northern league/national league XI. Those playing will be advised when team lists are available.
After 372 first team appearances - and a further 176 national league matches for other clubs, plus 11 all Whites matches (2009-13) - Scott is stepping down from first team football.
The match will be refereed by Hamzi Mahagna, a whistler who has been around even longer than Aaron.
Match organisers recommend a match entry donation of $5 or $10, depending on circumstances.
Meanwhile Melville will contest the northern league women's conference grand final against Birkenhead United at 2pm on Sunday (September 24) at Mangere Centre Park.
It is an awkward arrangement for Melville, who will be without both top goal scorers, Shion Hwang (in Japan) and Laura Bennett (with NZ U17s).
On Saturday Melville contest the opening round of the girls national league against Wellington Phoenix at Ngahue Reserve in Auckland at 12 noon, with many players required for the grand final the following day.
On Saturday at 12.30pm Melville host Auckland United at Gower Park in the third round of the boys youth national league northern qualifying group B.
Last weekend Melville lost 3-1 to Tauranga Moana. Melville's goal came from george dixon in the 90th minute.
In the opening round of group play Melville lost 4-2 away to Auckland City. Because it was the same weekend as the Chatham Cup final, Melville were without Isaac Bates and Lucca Lim. Melville's goals were scored by Thomas Cave and Max Gurnick.
