Melville United coaching vacancies

Melville United AFC, Waikato’s highest ranked winter senior men’s football club on 2019 standings, are seeking a new coach for their premier team competing in the Northern Regional Football League in 2020 and beyond.

We are also seeking a new Melville United Football Academy director, a 20-25 hours per week role which covers the planning, implementation, management and success of our year-round academy for players 11-16.

The two vacancies have been created through the success of our 2017-19 appointments having now taken up posts with the Wellington Phoenix and New Zealand Football.

To be considered for the following roles applicants must hold a minimum NZ Football Senior Level 2 coaching licence or approved equivalent and be eligible to work in New Zealand.


First team coach, principal duties and responsibilities:

Take responsibility for recruitment, retention and identifying suitably qualified players in order to assemble a squad capable of challenging for the Northern Premier League title

Develop appropriate coaching programmes to ensure squad members acquire the required levels of skill, tactical awareness and fitness to allow them maximum opportunity for success at the highest competitive level.

Obtain, keep and grow elite youth players for the Club in conjunction with the Melville United Academy and develop appropriate programmes to allow them to acquire the required levels of skill, tactical awareness and fitness to afford them maximum opportunity for success at the highest competitive level.

Oversee, direct, and implement coaching programmes for the club’s first team and provide input into the selection of coaches for the club’s Reserve and Federation teams.

Take responsibility for selecting a Northern Premier League playing squad and starting line-up in respect of each game and have sole charge at these games, apart from times when a suitably delegated assistant takes responsibility.

Maintain regular liaison with all other team coaches on all playing personnel matters.
Obtain the services of an approved first team manager, and assistant coaches, in liaison with the Club.

Operate within the budget prescribed by the Club.

Melville United Academy, principal duties and responsibilities:

Devise, oversee, direct, and implement year-round coaching programmes for the club’s youth academy teams at U11, U12, U13, U14 and U16 level that supports the development of players with ambitions to compete at the highest level domestically and internationally.

Oversee the selection and appointment of coaches for the Club’s academy teams

Lead the Club initiative to develop player and coaching links with local high schools.

Institute and direct The Melville United Academy, Club holiday programmes, Football Festivals and “Football in Schools” activities;

Maintain suitable documentation for all players enrolled in the academy.

Oversee the development of Melville’s club values and behaviours throughout the academy and ensure the development of a positive club culture
