Melville Reds bag eight goals
Melville United Red made it two wins from two in the Federation U15 league in beating Cambridge 8-1 at Gower Park.
Melville (kitted in green after Cambridge turned up in red) played good positional football which resulted in an attacking move down the left-hand side, and from a fair distance out Kieran Vollebregt scored the opening goal in the 8th minute.
Melville were then put under pressure by Cambridge and conceded a penalty after failing to clear the line.
But the team then got their act together and were 4-1 up by half time, with goals from Sam Sinclair (via a free kick), Jermaine Andeweg and Gabriel Jhang.
The second half was one-way traffic with lots of goal scoring opportunities, and four further goals came from fine attacking moves, and hard work in the midfield.
Tom O’Leary and Gabriel Jhang scored two each in this half.
“All in all it was a very strong performance by a young team in this U15s league,” said coach Johan Andeweg. “Next week we travel to Tauranga where we will face some really tough opposition.”
Meanwhile Melville United Green lost 8-1 to Wanderers.
