Melville AGM postponed for a week
The Melville United’s AGM has been postponed for a week, and will now kick off on Saturday November 18, at 2pm.
The change will avoid a clash with the All Whites-Peru match, and WaiBop girls’ fixtures scheduled for Gower Park that day.
A number of key club members were attending the All Whites match.
The AGM agenda will otherwise be unchanged.
Melville chairman Bruce Holloway said that while it was irregular to defer an AGM, it was a sensible move in this case.
He firmly rejected suggestions that the change was in any way related to reaction to a notice of motion to formally adopt “The Unicorns” as the club’s nickname.
Further, he disavowed any knowledge of a counter-move to nickname the club, The Griffins, based on a revisionist interpretation of the club’s historic emblem.
“News to me,” he said.
To be adopted, any nickname would need 75 per cent support from the meeting floor.
