Here we go

Melville begin their 2021 northern league pre-season with an internal squad match at Gower Park at 10am on Saturday (Feb 6).

The match will be a chance for newcomers and younger squad members to press their case, at the start of an intense pre-season that will then feature three home games and three away games.

With senior squad members Luke Searle and Sean Liddicoat (LS & SL) likely to miss the bulk of the season after sustaining serious injuries in the soon-to-be-binned summer league and Covid-19 restrictions making imports unfeasible, there will be more openings than usual for youngsters to press their case this pre-season.

“When one door shuts, another one invariably opens,” observed a team management member.

The northern premier league – which this season is incorporated into the new National League System” – is scheduled to start on March 27. While a draft draw has been circulated for planning purposes, league administrators have asked that it not be made public until after the NZ Football launch.
