Heavy loss for Melville

Melville were humbled 9-0 by Birkenhead United in northern premier league football at Shepherds Park in their first away trip of the season.

It was Melville United’s worst result in northern league history (post amalgamation in 1996) and also equalled a pre-amalgamation 9-0 loss to Taupo (by Melville AFC) in 1987.

However Melville remain third on the table, a point ahead of Birkenhead.

Melville were late arriving after striking traffic. They coughed up a goal in the first 30 seconds and it was all downhill from there, and they trailed 8-0 at half time. Nobody played well for Melville.

Melville Reserves lost 3-0.

Melville are AWAY to Eastern Suburbs on Saturday.
