Felix tries his luck

Canadian Hansly Felix (above) was among 26 players fronting for a Melville pre-season trial match on Saturday (Feb 29).

Melville Unicorns beat Melville Gryphons 5-2 in a morning match where the talking points were Riku Soejima again showing his class with a goal in each half, Levi Clark scoring a cracker, veteran Steve Kipchoge cameoing for 45 minutes and also getting on the scoresheet, and Jerson Lagos Giraldo managing to score for both teams after being subbed across.

Felix, a 22-year-old attacking midfielder or left winger has arrived from Ottowa South United, having previously played for Ottowa Fury FC and DC United U23s in the US.

“It felt good out there,” Felix said after his first run since arriving in Hamilton midweek. “The players worked very hard.”

While he was born in Canada his family are of Haitian origin and he is eyeing selection for the Haiti U23 team and thought travelling abroad may help doors to open.

Melville now face Cambridge at Gower Park on Tuesday evening (6.30pm). A proposed match against Glenfield Rovers at home on Saturday has been scrubbed with a replacement match still to be announced.
