Big derby challenge & Three Kings video

Melville face Wanderers Sports Club in a challenging premier league derby match at Porritt Stadium on Saturday (2.45pm), needing to bounce back from a shattering last-minute away loss to Three Kings.

Melville will be without Ryan Taylor, who not only coughed up the match-losing goal with a dodgy back-pass, but was also booked in the Three Kings match, which took him to a five-booking suspension.

Despite the loss to Three Kings, Melville scored two excellent goals through Matthew Jones and lachie McIsaac, as captured above.

Wanderers are just four points ahead of Melville on the table, but won 5-1 earlier this season, as Melville played a shocker.

But Melville Reserves will be looking to continue their winning ways. After a 2-1 away win over Three Kings they remain two points clear at the top of the table. Wanderers are 14 points behind in ninth place.

Melville Feds are away to 4th-placed Otumoetai, a team they lead by one point, but with Otumoetai having a game in hand.

For those who can’t face the trip across town to Porritt, in the feature match at Gower Park on Saturday (2.45pm) Melville A face West Hamilton in a Waikato Cup tie. In the Waikato Plate, holders Melville Old Boys are away to Cambridge D, buoyed by last week’s stirring 2-1 away win over league leaders Otorohanga, which leaves them now just four points off the lead in the Waikato C Division.

In women’s football on Sunday, Melville are at home to Claudelands Rovers in the WaiBop Premier League. Melville are level on points with Northern United at the top of the table, but trail on goal difference.
